ZEPHYRHILLS' PASQUALE SIGNS WITH I-A SCHOOL

Lauren Pasquale, a standout on the Zephyrhills softball team, has signed with Division I-A College of Charleston (S.C.) and will play for the Cougars next season.

Pasquale was the leading hitter for the Bulldogs this season, batting .414 with 14 doubles, 18 RBIs and 20 runs scored. She also pitched 1222/3 innings, with a 2.51 ERA while striking out 130.

As a junior, Pasquale led Zephyrhills to the region semifinals with a 0.24 ERA in 147 innings pitched. She also batted .317 that season and was a St. Petersburg Times All-North Suncoast first-team selection.

Bulls swimmers to compete at next level

Wiregrass Ranch is sending two of its premier swimmers to college.

Rebecca Pindral, a two-time Timesgirlsswimmer of the year, will take her talents to the Division I-A University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She placed sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke at the Class 2A state meet (1:07.09) and qualified for states in the 200 individual medley.

Brandan Leroche will compete next season at Division III the College at Brockport, part of the State University of New York system. He was a member of the Bulls' 200-yard medley relay team that took fifth at regionals (1:52.16). He also swam on the 400 freestyle relay. Individually, Leroche qualified for regionals in the 100 backstroke.

Sharks runner Turney selects Midway College

Nature Coast senior distance runner Jazmin Turney signed with Midway (Ky.) College, an NAIA school.

Turney took first in the 3,200 meters at the Hernando County Championships as a senior, running 13:34 to win gold; she was third in the 1,600 in 6:14. At districts, she placed seventh in the 1,600 (6:08.90) and the 3,200 (13:47.18).

As a cross country runner, Turney was 43rd at districts (22:48.45) and 44th at regionals (21:54.20) in her senior season.

Three Bulldogs choose Pikeville for football

Pikeville (Ky.) College picked up three players from Zephyrhills during the spring recruiting season. OL/DT Stephen Cottrell, LB Frank Morrison and OL John Dodd signed with the NAIA program.

Cottrell starred on the offensive line and was selected to the all-Sunshine Athletic Conference second team. Morrison was an all-SAC third-team pick and was an honorable on the Times' all-North Suncoast team. Dodd was a standout on the line.
