Robin Little, a pre-K teacher at Safety Harbor Elementary, has been awarded the Dr. Catherine Pedretty Space Scholarship for Teachers by the Space Foundation. This is the first time the scholarship has been awarded.

The award honors a Pinellas teacher who has a passion for space education. Little will travel to the Space Foundation Discovery Institute in Colorado Springs, Colo., this summer to attend workshops intended to strengthen her instruction.

"Many people don't realize how our lives are affected by the space program," Little said. "All our cell phones, satellites, etc., are a spin-off of the space program."

Little, who has been teaching for 34 years, is excited to take her knowledge back to the classroom.

"We need kids to be exposed to the sciences so they become more aware of the world they live in," she said.
