For starters, Rays vs. Yanks

UPDATE, 5:10: Manager Joe Maddon stopped short of saying it would be a straight platoon, but he made clear he plans to play Elliot Johnson more at shortstop and slumping Reid Brignac less. ... Also, Maddon said RHP Andy Sonnanstine is now a definite to start Friday night at the Marlins.

UPDATE, 5:04: The Yankees put former Rays closer Rafael Soriano on the DL. They have Jorge Posada in their lineup at DH hitting seventh, but don't have OF Nick Swisher who has a stomach ailment. OF Chris Dickerson was called up and will be in the lineup.

DEVELOPING: The Rays are looking for a sweep of the two-game series with the Yankees tonight, while the Yankees are just looking for some relief as their losing streak has reached six games - longest since 2007 - and turmoil is swirling around the team.

RHP James Shields, who has been one of the hottest pitchers in the game thus far, will be on the mound for the Rays opposed by Yankees RHP Ivan Nova.

No word yet on lineups.

Manager Joe Maddon gave the hitters the afternoon off again, with a late report time and no batting practice on the field.
