Lisa Edelstein doesn't renew contract, is leaving 'House'

While we're talking about bad TV news, we have to note that Lisa Edelstein will not be returning to Fox's House next season. All you Dr. Cuddy fans will just have to do without.

Edelstein's long-term contract expires this month, leading to the move: "After much consideration, I am moving onward with a combination of disappointment at leaving behind a character I have loved playing for seven years and excitement of the new opportunities in acting and producing that lie ahead," the actress said in a statement, TVLine reports. Doesn't she know things need to remain static on a successful TV show?

There's a possibility that Edelstein was the victim of budget cuts, the site says, so it may be that she decided not to take a lowball offer or was written out completely. The good news for all of you is that Robert Sean Leonard and Omar Epps both renewed their contracts, so you'll still get to see them, and Hugh Laurie, Olivia Wilde and Peter Jacobson will be back. Jesse Spencer's Dr. Chase is still up in the air, though.
