Without discussion, the Pasco County School Board has ratified 2010-11 contracts for the district teachers and school related personnel.

The contracts do not include raises for the third straight year. The United School Employees of Pasco approved the contracts by wide margins last week.

USEP president Lynne Webb told the board that most employees were "mightily disappointed" with the results, which came after impasse that got resolved before going to a hearing officer. The vote really was a grudging acceptance of the tenuous finances that the district faces, she said.

Webb urged the board to improve communications with the USEP, so they can collaborate going forward and limit future pain as talks begin on the 2011-12 contract.

"You have a work force that feels unappreciated and downtrodden, and has become the scapegoat of society," Webb said. "We need to do something to make them feel good."
