Gator shows up to frolic in surf

You don't expect to go to the beach and encounter an alligator, but a 6-footer was captured in the surf in Marco Island, naplesnews.com reports.

Onlookers (they must have been tourists) appeared to be thrilled rather than scared, the website said ("I have been coming to Marco Island for 35 years and have never seen this happen," one wrote in an e-mail).

On the other coast, up in Jacksonville, trappers snagged a 10-footer because it was getting too used to people, news4jax.com reports. Kids had been feeding it hotdogs and chickens. It took three hours for trappers to finally snag and kill it, even though a gator usually flees at the prospect of being turned into a purse.
