This weekend: Flash back to the '80s with the Florida Orchestra

When you think classical music, you don't typically think of the greatest pop hits of the 1980s.

But this weekend, the Florida Orchestra will go, like, totally rad for the Me Decade in a pops program called Totally Awesome '80s. From Friday through Sunday in Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater, the Orchestra will perform symphonic arrangements of 18 pop hits, including everything from Dexys Midnight Runners' Come On Eileen to Simple Minds' Don't You (Forget About Me) to Prince's Let's Go Crazy to the Police's Every Breath You Take to Guns N' Roses' Welcome to the Jungle to Bon Jovi's Livin' On A Prayer.

"Top 40 pop, new wave, hair metal - we wanted to represent everything," said guest conductor Sarah Hicks, above. "We use the orchestra as a large band to extend the palates on which these songs were originally made."
