2 SCHOOLS TWEAK SCHEDULES

It avoids adding bus routes for new Winding Waters.

The starting times at two Hernando County schools will change slightly next year to accommodate the opening of the new Winding Waters K-8 in Weeki Wachee.

The School Board voted unanimously Tuesday evening to set the Winding Waters bell times and tweak the schedules at West Hernando Middle School and Central High School.

The first bell at Winding Waters will ring at 8:35 a.m., the first dismissal bell at 3:15 p.m. The changes to the other schools' times allow the district to bus Winding Waters students without adding new routes, which saves money, transportation director Linda Smith said.

The move comes a year after a district-wide change to bell schedules to save what turned out to be $1 million in transportation costs.
