The J. Hop Times, the student newspaper at John Hopkins Middle School, has won first place in the 2011 Weekly Reader publishing contest, besting about 30 other middle and high school newspapers that entered. "We were so impressed with the newspaper's attractive design and thought-provoking articles, especially the ones on stereotypes and the achievement gap," Laura Anastasia, senior editor of Weekly Reader Publishing, wrote in an email to Hopkins journalism teacher Jenny Butkus.
