The Florida Orchestra is doing the classics this weekend. The real masters. I'm talking Peter Gabriel, Prince and Michael Jackson. (Maybe a little Axl Rose too.)
It's Totally Awesome '80s Weekend for the orchestra (with shows at the Straz, Mahaffey and Ruth Eckerd Hall), and of course I'll be there (two nights actually) because I'm dying to hear how they perform Welcome to the Jungle without any electric guitar. (Actually, most of the tunes that night will have the help of a rock band and singers, but the orchestra promises no tricks on the Guns N' Roses anthem. We'll see.)
Read Times Performing Arts Critic John Fleming's interview with this weekend's guest conductor, who's at the right age to be a child of the '80s. And then head off to tackle my '80s music quiz. I wrote it for the newspaper -- not for experts like you -- therefore it's so ridiculously easy that any wrong answers will immediately get you banned from the blog!
