Pasquale, Shull chosen for coaches classic

Six players from Pasco and Pinellas counties were selected for the 22nd annual Florida Athletic Coaches Association Softball Classic at Forest High in Ocala.

Playing for the West team are Alexis Galinski (Shorecrest), Lauren Pasquale (Zephyrhills), Lakyn Shull (River Ridge), Krissy Longstreet (Canterbury), Ayanna Andrews (Countryside) and Alyssa Bache (East Lake).

The West will take on the East at 6:30 p.m. today. That winner plays the North/South winner in Saturday's championship at 11:30 a.m. The losing semifinalists will play for third at 10 a.m.

Eagles defensive standout Santana signs with Pace

Springstead leading tackler Josh Santana signed with Pace University, joining teammate Brian Beeker at the Division II school in Pleasantville, N.Y. Santana registered 118 tackles, 9.8 a game, to lead the Springstead defense. He also had two sacks. As a fullback, he carried 17 times for 78 yards as a senior. Santana was a St. Petersburg Times all-North Suncoast second-team selection as a linebacker. In 2010, Springstead finished 6-6 and advanced to the Class 4A region semifinals for the first time since 2004 and only the second time in school history.
