Callahan: Hawks' McCoy down to Vandy, UCF

Armwood RT Kevin McCoy has narrowed his college choices to UCF and Vanderbilt, with a weekend visit scheduled for the latter.

Hawks coach Sean Callahan said McCoy, a first-team Class 6A all-state pick, likely will decide upon his return from Nashville, where former Hawks QB Josh Grady just completed his redshirt season.

Additionally, Callahan said TB Wade Edwards has narrowed his choices to Kent State and Akron, and will visit the Zips campus this weekend. Former Auburn coach Terry Bowden recently was hired as Akron coach.

If all goes as planned, Armwood will boast a program-best nine Division I signees at its National Signing Day ceremony on Feb. 1. At least two others -- LT Brandon Teeling and RG Jack Lightsey -- could sign with smaller programs. Teeling has committed to Division I-AA Samford, and Lightsey is visiting I-AA Hampton (Va.) University this weekend.
