A 24-year-old man is accused of hitting one Pasco sheriff's deputy with his car, then nearly hitting another.
Dana Charles Lauber of 629 Richmond Street in Dunedin was pulled over about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday when a deputy saw him driving off the road at the northeast corner of U.S. 19 and Mile Stretch Drive.
While the deputy was trying to remove the keys from the ignition of the Dodge Charger, Lauber hit the deputy with his car, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said. The deputy was not seriously injured.
Then, authorities said, Lauber nearly hit another deputy.
Lauber was arrested after he crashed the car further north on U.S. 19, near Darlington Road.
He is charged with attempted first degree murder of a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, felony fleeing to elude, second degree reckless driving, DUI and two counts of DUI damage to property.
He is being held in Land O'Lakes jail without bail.
