FORUMS SET TO DISCUSS 4-DAY SCHOOL WEEK

COUNTYWIDE

The Pasco school district's task force exploring the possibility of four-day school weeks has scheduled three public forums to gather community feedback on the concept. The panel has collected research on the topic including from nearby Marion County, which is backing away from its plan for four-day weeks after learning the savings would be less than expected. The forums are scheduled for:

- 6:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at Pasco Middle School, 13925 14th St., Dade City.

- 6:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at Rushe Middle School, 18654 Mentmore Blvd., Land O'Lakes.

- 6:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Center for the Arts at River Ridge, 11646 Town Center Road, New Port Richey.

"These forums are one more way to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to weigh in on this important topic," chairman Steve Luikart said. The district received about 10,000 responses to its online survey, which was unscientific because people could choose to participate more than once.

Haley Mamonoff, the younger sister of a teen who was hit and killed by a car last year, is 9 years old. A photo caption from a Saturday story on last week's candlelight vigil gave an incorrect age.
