REP. CASTOR SPEAKS ON TRADE

Tampa

U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Tampa, will speak on the importance of international trade, economic development and Tampa Bay's connection to Cuba during a lunch sponsored by the World Trade Center Tampa Bay at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Hyatt Regency Tampa.

Last month, Castor helped thwart an effort by South Florida lawmakers to block President Barack Obama's efforts to ease rules on people visiting and sending money to relatives in Cuba, including new flights from Tampa to Cuba.

Child porn leads to charges

A postal worker arrested Tuesday faces charges of possessing child pornography.

Lloyd Lee Edge, 59, of Tampa, had his computer seized by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Internet Sexual Predator Unit on Jan. 13. Detectives said they found images of children younger than 12 engaged in sex acts. Edge made some images available to others, the Sheriff's Office said.

He was arrested Tuesday on two counts of possession of photos depicting sex with a child and six counts of possession of child pornography.

Edge retired from the Air Force as a technical sergeant after 20 years of service, and has worked for the U.S. Postal Service since 1999, deputies said. Jail records say he is a clerk.

He was being held Tuesday night in the Hillsborough County Jail on $27,000 bail.

Tampa

One-car crash kills driver

The driver of a car that struck a power pole Tuesday on N Nebraska Avenue died at the scene, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Miguel Coira-Villar, 63, of Tampa, died in the 10:20 a.m. crash,the patrol said.

The crash is under investigation.

Tampa

Warrant details shooting

A 46-year-old man covered in blood admitted shooting his roommate, according to a search warrant released Tuesday.

Michael R. Taylor, of 10228 N Oakleaf Ave., told police he pointed a gun at Evan J. White, also 46, and demanded pills Jan. 15, but White took the gun and hit him on the head. Taylor got a second gun, chased White outside and shot him, the warrant said.

White was taken in critical condition to St. Joseph's Hospital.

Taylor faces charges of attempted felony murder, robbery with a firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He remained Tuesday in the Hillsborough County Jail on $507,500 bail.
