ONE KILLED, ONE INJURED IN TWO-CAR CRASH

Tampa

A man was killed in a crash as he was leaving a retirement center Thursday morning, deputies said. Omar Sullivan, 79, of Tampa was driving his 1989 Ford Crown Victoria out of the Sheldon West Club just after 9:45 a.m. He tried to cross Sheldon Road when he drove into the path of a southbound Hyundai Sonata, deputies said. The Hyundai, driven by Samantha Rao, 25, of Odessa hit the driver's side door. Sullivan died at the scene. Rao was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Deputies are investigating, but they say it appears Sullivan violated the right of way. Sullivan moved to Florida from Massachusetts about a decade ago. He does not have any infractions on his Florida license, which he got in 2008, state records show.

Cars tumble off truck on interstate

Two cars fell onto the road from a semitrailer truck carrying several vehicles after a Ford F-150 cut off the semi on Interstate 275, state troopers say. Witnesses told investigators that at about noon near the downtown Tampa exit, a dark-colored Ford that was towing an enclosed trailer in the southbound lanes cut off the semi. The Ford's trailer hit the semi, which jackknifed, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The Ford drove away. The semi driver had minor injuries but no one else was hurt. The patrol asked that anyone with information call (813) 631-4020.
