The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis Club of Brooksville, through its foundation, and the Kiwanis Club of Spring Hill will recognize Hernando County graduating students at the 38th annual Student Recognition Banquet at 6 p.m. April 26 at the Palace Grand, 275 Della Court, Spring Hill.

Sponsorships opportunities are available, and the chamber will be awarding several scholarships with funds generated from sponsorship contributions.

Gold Table sponsorships are $750 and include recognition in the event program, the chamber newsletter and on the sponsor board; sponsorship of two students and guests; four tickets to the event, and recognition as a scholarship fund contributor.

Silver Table sponsorships are $500 and include recognition in event program, the chamber newsletter and on the sponsor board; sponsorship of two students and guests, and four tickets to event.

Individual Student sponsors are $250 and include recognition in event program, sponsorship of one student and guests and two tickets to the event.

Who's news

Registered nurse Ralph Taylor was recently appointed assistant chief nursing officer at Oak Hill Hospital, 11375 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill.

Taylor comes to the hospital from another HCA facility, Englewood Hospital, where he was director of surgical services. His prior experience has been in surgery, the intensive care unit and supervision.

Taylor holds a master's degree in nursing with a concentration in leadership and management, and will receive a master's degree in health care administration in May.

Dr. David McGrew, HPH Hospice Spring Hill medical director, was recently appointed to serve on the organizing board for national hospice medical director certification.

The board, in conjunction with the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, will work to raise the standard of care provided by hospice medical directors nationally.

McGrew, who has been with Hospice for more than 25 years, is a founding member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and is past president of the Florida chapter. Since 2000, he has been president of Hospice and Palliative Physician Services, a physician group providing home care to hospice and palliative medicine patients in Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties.

Danielle Gonzales was recently appointed supply chain director for Oak Hill Hospital, 11375 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill.

Gonzales comes to the hospital from HCA's Largo/Indian Rocks campus, where she was supply chain coordinator. She holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Old Dominion University.

Oak Hill Hospital has announced recent appointments to its quality and risk-management team.

Joining registered nurse Leanne D. Salazar, vice president of quality and risk management, are Marie Richard, Liz Jennings and Chriss Lavigne.

Richard, a registered nurse, was promoted to the quality team after serving as a case manager in the intensive care unit of the hospital. She is an experienced critical-care nurse.

Jennings, a registered nurse, was promoted to the quality team after serving as a computerized physician order entry educator to physicians and nurses. She has been employed at the hospital for 20 years, specializing in post-anesthesia care.

Lavigne, a patient experience coordinator, joined the hospital team from an HCA facility in Fort Walton Beach. She holds a bachelor's degree in social science from the University of Maryland.

Nancy Quintero recently opened Q's Fiesta Place at 4030 Andy Pella Drive, Spring Hill.

The party store offers typical party items, as well as custom-made pinatas, which are made by her mother, Maria Maldonado. Also helping out at the store is Fernando Quintero, Nancy's husband.

Brooksville Regional and Spring Hill Regional hospitals' Women's Advisory Council will host a "Go Red for Women and Heart Disease" fashion show at 6 p.m. Friday at Silverthorn Country Club, 4550 Golf Club Lane, Spring Hill. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

The runway fashion show will be presented by La Boutique of Spring Hill. Hors d'oeuvres will be served. Those attending are invited to show support by wearing red. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Crescent Community Clinic.

Brooksville Regional Hospital, 17240 Cortez Blvd., west of Brooksville, announced that it now offers another form of robotic surgery.

To introduce the new technology, there will be an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 6 in the hospital's outpatient lobby. The event is free and open to the public.

Those attending will have the opportunity to meet physicians and receive a demonstration of the MAKO robotic surgical arm.
