Deputies say a 17-year-old boy who shot a 21-year-old man in the head during a drug deal gone bad was arrested Friday - a week after the shooting took place.
Gerald Terrell Jones, 17, of Brandon was charged with attempted felony murder with a firearm.
He was identified by witnesses as the person responsible for shooting Daniel Drake, 21, in the head after taking an "undisclosed amount of marijuana" from Drake's vehicle, officials said.
Drake remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit of Tampa General Hospital after having surgery earlier this week.
Doctors removed a single bullet from Drake's skull.
He was found bleeding from the head and mouth with a gunshot wound to his head on Jan. 20 at about 2 p.m. near 1412 Mohrlake Drive.
Since then, deputies had been searching for the shooter.
According to officials, Drake and Jones had been conducting a drug deal when the two began to fight.
That's when Jones pulled out a pistol and threatened to kill Drake, deputies said.
Jones then opened Drake's car, removed the marijuana and attempted to leave, deputies said.
Drake went after him, and Jones shot at him several times, deputies said.
According to jail and court records, Drake was arrested in 2009 and ultimately paid a fine for possession of marijuana.
