Durant QB Nick Fabrizio commits to Navy

Durant QB Nick Fabrizio, who led the Cougars to their first district title since 2003, has committed to Navy.

"It was one of my better options," Fabrizio said. "I'll get bigger, stronger, come out with a job, and playing Division-I football can't be beat."

Fabrizio chose the Midshipmen, who will begin play in the Big East in 2015, over Wofford, The Citadel and Georgetown. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound senior was the leading rusher in Durant's option offense, amassing 1,085 yards and 19 touchdowns on 129 carries, and he also completed 49-of-97 passes for 733 yards and nine touchdowns.

"He wanted to play Division-I football, and he's intrigued by them joining the Big East," Durant head coach Mike Gottman said. "He's a competitor."

After The Cougars' season ended, Fabrizio was the starting quarterback for the East team in the Dec. 10 Hillsborough County senior All-Star game. He was named the East MVP after throwing for a touchdown and running for two as his team won 26-13. Two weekends ago, Fabrizio visited Navy's Annapolis, Md., campus.

"It was an extremely nice place and a cool environment," he said. "I'm excited."
