MORE PEOPLE THAN EVER ARE TAKING THE BUS

COUNTYWIDE

Bus ridership in Pinellas County reached an all-time high of 1,097,842 rides in December, a 9 percent increase over December 2010. Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority officials say part of the gain is the popularity of the new Central Avenue Trolley in St. Petersburg and new Jolley Trolley service for the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. "Historically, public transit ridership in Pinellas County is always highest during the springtime peak of tourism season. So to see this record patronage in December shows how our community values and supports public transit," PSTA chief executive Brad Miller said. PSTA hopes to expand bus service in the near future.
