A man from South Florida died Monday night in a crash on Interstate 75.
Frederick Redding, 52, of Florida City, was a passenger in a Ford Excursion going south on I-75 around 5:50 p.m. when the left rear tire blew out, sending the SUV into the median north of State Road 52, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The driver, Karen W. Everett, 44, of Miami, overcorrected to the right, crossed both lanes and drove onto the shoulder of the road, FHP said. Troopers said she then overcorrected again to the left, and the SUV spun counterclockwise and hit several trees.
Redding was being treated overnight at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point when he died from his injuries.
Everett had minor injuries, and a second passenger had no injuries. Troopers said all three were wearing seat belts.
