Keppinger to rejoin Rays on Friday

INF Jeff Keppinger is set to rejoin the Rays on Friday in Philadelphia.

Keppinger has been out since mid-May after breaking his right big toe in a freak accident, as he was hit by a foul ball in the dugout.

He played his sixth rehab game on Thursday with Durham and was on the way to Philadelphia.

Keppinger's right-handed bat will come in handy as the Rays are facing lefties Cliff Lee on Friday and Cole Hamels on Sunday in Philadelphia.

Also, executive VP Andrew Friedman said they don't know yet, but could decide as soon as Friday, whether OF Matt Joyce is headed to the DL due to his stiff back. And the plans for Brook Conrad probably won't be known until Friday either, as he could be sent to Triple-A or join the Rays.
