OAKLAND, Calif. - Dodgers slugger Matt Kemp still is optimistic about playing in the All-Star Game next month in Kansas City, as long as he's sure he will be healthy for the stretch run.

Whether manager Don Mattingly and the medical staff give him the go-ahead is another question.

"Of course I want to play, but I've got to do what's best for the team," Kemp said Thursday, before going through his rehab workout. "If I'm not ready, I can't play, but as of right now I plan on playing."

Kemp has been on the disabled list since May 31 with the same strained left hamstring that first sidelined him May 14-29.

Kemp, the NL's All-Star votes leader in the latest count this week, does not have a timetable for a return, though Mattingly has said just after the All-Star break is the goal.

Kemp and the Rangers' Josh Hamilton are atop the fan vote for who should be in the home run derby.

Team captains Kemp and Robinson Cano of the Yankees get the final say, but Kemp leads the Brewers' Ryan Braun in the NL, and Hamilton leads the Tigers' Prince Fielder in the AL in voting through Wednesday.

Ortiz Peeved: Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, apparently tired of hearing reports that the clubhouse is in turmoil, told reporters in an expletive-filled rant that the media are creating the drama. "It's starting to become the (expletive) hole that it used to be," Ortiz said. "Playing here used to be so much fun, and now every day it's something new not even related to baseball. People need to leave us alone and let us play ball, man, and let us do what we know how to do."

Robbed Red Saga:Claudia Manrique, an exotic dancer from Maryland, was charged with filing a false police report about a robbery at the Pittsburgh hotel room of Reds LHP Aroldis Chapman last month. Manrique was charged by Pittsburgh police with a misdemeanor and must return to Pittsburgh City Court for a preliminary hearing Aug. 28. She was not arrested but will receive a summons. Chapman told police he arranged for Manrique to fly to Pittsburgh, where the Reds were playing the Pirates in May. Police contend Manrique lied when she claimed she was tied up in the 24-year-old Cuban's room by an unknown assailant who made off with about $6,000 in jewelry and other items. Chapman told police through an interpreter "he believed that Manrique was involved with the theft and not being truthful," a police report said.

Blue Jays: Triple A RHP Sean O'Sullivan, was acquired from the Royals for cash. He has pitched in the majors with the Angels and Royals, going 10-14 with a 6.13 ERA.

Braves: RHP Brandon Beachy had successful right elbow ligament-replacement surgery, the team said. The recovery period is at least one year, so RHP Jair Jurrjens was recalled from Triple A to take that rotation spot.

Rangers: RHP Roy Oswalt will make his debut to the team today against Colorado. "I'd like to think that adding a veteran starter of Roy's caliber makes us a better ballclub," CEO Nolan Ryan said.

Rockies: SS Troy Tulowitzki had surgery on his left groin to remove scar tissue and will be out at least six weeks.
