MAN, 18, CRITICALLY HURT IN AFTERNOON SHOOTING

CLEARWATER

An 18-year-old man was shot Tuesday afternoon during an argument in the 1300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., police said.

The man was hospitalized in critical condition, officials said. A search for the man who shot him was ongoing.

An initial investigation found that the man who was shot was a passenger in a car that pulled up to a house about 4:28 p.m., authorities said. Another man came out of the house and an argument erupted between the man and those in the car.

The man pulled out a gun and fired into the car, hitting the passenger before fleeing the area, police said.

Friends took the shooting victim to Morton Plant Hospital. He was later taken to a local trauma center, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

Woman in head-on crash dies at hospital

A woman died late Tuesday after she was injured in a crash with a man who had a medical emergency while driving, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Justin M. Page, 31, of St. Petersburg was driving east about 5:16 p.m. on 54th Avenue N west of 42nd Street in a 2008 Mercury Milan, authorities said. Page lost control of the car, driving into the path of oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with a 1999 Saturn.

The driver of the Saturn, Beverly A. Johnson, 61, of St. Petersburg was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where she later died, officials said. Page was also taken to Bayfront for treatment of minor injuries. Adam L. Harder, 32, of St. Petersburg, a passenger in Page's car, also had minor injuries, but was not taken to the hospital.
