Hernando County Administrator Leonard Sossamon will host a town hall meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at VFW Post 10209, 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive. Residents will have an opportunity to meet the new administrator and comment on the proposed budget for the 2012-13 fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1. The county is facing a $7 million deficit, and the County Commission is considering various options to balance the budget, including deep cuts in programs and services. One elections office closed until July 6
The Hernando County Supervisor of Elections branch office at 7443 Forest Oaks Blvd. is closed through July 6 for staff training and election preparation. The main office, in Room 165 of the Hernando County Government Center, 20 N Main St., Brooksville, will remain open during regular business hour for voter registration services. Videos help landscape stay fit for Florida
Hernando County Utilities and Hernando County Government Broadcasting have collaborated to produce five informational videos to assist homeowners maintain their landscapes. Following Florida Friendly Landscaping principles, the videos include information about the use of a rain barrel to conserve water, lawn fertilization and irrigation, and the "Forever Green Project" completed by Girl Scout Troop 807. The videos will be broadcast on Bright House Ch. 622 and are also available on the Hernando County government website at hernandocountyfl.iqm2.com/Citizens/Media.aspx.
