Florida lawmakers adopted a bill this year that requires the 100 lowest performing elementary schools in reading on the FCAT to add an extra hour of reading instruction beyond the normal school day, with $15 million in total state funding attached.

Fifteen ampa Bay area schools made the list, which is based on the percentage of a school's students scoring at grade level or above in reading, and the percentage making gains. (The ranking is based on the point values for the two categories being added together.)

In Pinellas, Imagine charter school had the worst ranking (9th lowest of the 100). Also on the list from Pinellas are Fairmount Park (14), Melrose (33), Woodlawn (36), Lakewood (49), High Point (64) and Campbell Park (76).

In Hillsborough, the schools on the list are Sulphur Springs (13), Edison (15), Potter (29), Washington (39), Shaw (60), West Tampa (67), Oak Park (84), and Graham (100).

Hernando and Pasco counties had no schools on the list, which is attached below.
