Hurricane forecasters say a tropical depression in the Atlantic Ocean could become Tropical Storm Ernesto by today.

Currently southeast of Hispaniola, the storm likely will head into the Caribbean Sea in the next several days, possibly becoming a hurricane as early as Monday.

The storm had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph Wednesday afternoon. It was traveling west-northwest at 18 mph.

Conditions are relatively favorable for development over the next several days.
