Gators OC Brent Pease said Florida will stay the course with Jacoby Brissett

Don't expect a massive change in Florida's offensive philosophy just because starting QB Jeff Driskel is out this week.

Florida offensive coordinator Brent Pease said today that if Driskel's sprained ankle keeps him out of the game, which appears likely, the Gators won't do a major overhaul to the offense with backup Jacoby Brissett in as the starter.

"I still think we stay within our philosophy,'' Pease said. "To get to 9-1 and work towards getting to 10-1 and hopefully 11-1, I think we've got a pretty good recipe. Is it totally what you want it to be in the big picture? No. There's things we've got to improve on. There's pieces you can put in. Jacoby has a great opportunity, and what he does to improve us and do a good for himself as well as his teammates, hey, it's his stage for this game. Step up and do what you've got to do. You're number's called, go carry the flag."

Pease said about the only major difference in the offense this week against Jacksonville State, assuming Driskel can't go, is that there will be fewer called running plays. Driskel has better speed and running ability, Brissett better down-field arm strength. Pease said while Brissett has the ability to run, he won't put him in situations where he'll have a higher chance of getting injured.

"He's not the runner Jeff is,'' Pease said. "He doesn't have the elusiveness and speed. I'm not saying we won't do it. I'm just saying some of those things are built a little more for Jeff's ability than Jacoby's. Now Jacoby probably wants to do it. He's not opposed to doing it. He bugs me about it all the time. I'm not saying we won't. But now all of a sudden you're down a guy, too, and you put a guy in that position where he's gonna get hit, you've gotta kind of guard yourself against getting that kid dinged up a little bit."
