A few months ago, we went behind the scenes at HSN Live, a concept from the former Home Shopping Network that brings musical heavyweights like Rod Stewart, Lionel Richie and Josh Turner to St. Petersburg for live, televised concerts that help them albums.
The concerts are exclusive and invite-only. But what if they weren't? What if fans of those artists could pack into a bigger venue for a full-on rock concert experience?
HSN and the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg are discussing just such a partnership. Sandra J. Gadsden reports that talks are in the early stages, but that it's a real possibility that concerts and other celebrity product-hawking sessions could one day take place on the Mahaffey stage.
"It would be fun to have 2,000 people in the audience rooting on entertainers like Emeril (Lagasse), Mary J. Blige and Tony Bennett as they sell their wares on the stage," said Joe Jimenez, managing partner for Bill Edwards Entertainment, which runs the Mahaffey.
