News about the 2013 Ultra Music Festival in Miami is trickling out slowly. First came the announcement that it would be two weekends insead of one -- March 15-17 and March 22-24. Today we found out our first headliner -- and it's a big enough name that any tickets still unsold may evaporate before we even hear any more names.
Swedish House Mafia, one of the biggest electronic acts in the world, will close out their farewell tour with two shows at Ultra, one on the festival's first night, and one on its last. Considering the group's worldwide arena tour is mostly sold out, it's a nice coup for electronic music fans in Florida. But then, would you expect anything less from Ultra, one of the world's premiere electronic fests?
While Swedish House Mafia aren't OFFICIALLY calling these their final shows ever, it looks that way from their tour slate.
"Ultra was the first place we really built a show for a main stage," the band said in a statement. "The energy of the crowd was unbelievable and the fact that it's part of Miami Music Week where so much new music is born made it even more special. It just felt right that we finished where so much was started and we're honored to open and close the festival."
Swedish House Mafia have never performed in Tampa Bay as a group, though Sebastian Ingrosso and John Agnello have both been here solo (Axwell, to the best of our knowledge, has not).
Ultra Music Festival tickets are $299.95 per weekend or $574.95 for both weekends. Click here for details.
