The Florida Department of Education has declared November as Florida Parent Involvement Month. It's important to get parents more active in the schools, commissioner Pam Stewart said in a memo to superintendents, because it leads to improved academic results and increased motivation, regardless of family background or income.
Stewart recommended sharing several resources with schools and families to improve participation. These included:
* Join the state's Online Parent Community
* Family Calendar of activities for the month of November
* Parent Involvement Pledge
What ways do you see as best for parents to help the schools and their children as students? Any specific examples from schools that you would suggest as a model?
