The Florida-Florida State rivalry will hit the hardwood tonight when the women's teams meet at 7 p.m. at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee.
This will be the first road trip for the six freshmen on the Gators' squad.
Florida (2-0) holds a 41-27 lead in the 68-game series, the longest series in program history. However, Florida State has won six of the last nine games. The Gators won last year's game, 72-58, in Gainesville.
If recent history is any indication, tonight will be a battle. Florida's last three losses to the Seminoles have been by a combined nine points.
"They are very well-coached,'' Florida coach Amanda Butler said. "They've only played one game, so we've had very little current film to look at them and really get a feel for what they are trying to be. But they do have a lot of returning players. When we played them last year, they had a bit of a point guard situation, and that's been rectified by a point guard we're very familiar with in Morgan Toles who was at Auburn the year before. They are really, really talented. They are long, they're athletic. They are a really great rebounding team. They can put you in some really tough positions with their athleticism, their length and their versatility with players like Chasity Clayton and Natasha Howard. So we've got to go in there and really grow up in a hurry. This will be a unique experience for our freshman because this will be the first time that they've played not just a for real game on the road, but to play it in that sort of environment with the intensity and the pressure that that rivalry brings, I think it will be really a growing experience for them."
