HURRICANES STICK TOGETHER AT NEXT LEVEL

Bishop McLaughlin baseball teammates Tanner Koch and Colton Nussel will remain teammates at the next level. The senior right-handers signed with Division II Montevallo (Ala.).

Koch was a Times' first-team all-North Suncoast performer last fall after posting a 1.45 ERA and 6-4 record. He also fanned 50 in 53 innings and batted .250 with 11 home runs.

Nussel hit .262 last season and scored 16 runs. He also put up a 2.53 ERA with 47 strikeouts in 382/3 innings.

Other area players to sign Wednesday include:

- Mitchell standout swimmer Devin McCaffrey signed with LSU. The reigning North Suncoast swimmer of the year won a state title at last week's Class 2A meet with a personal-best time of 48.86 seconds in the 100 butterfly. He took second with a new PR (56.08) in the 100 breaststroke.

McCaffrey won gold at state as a junior in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.

- Springstead golfer Megan Berube signed with Indiana State, with a ceremony planned for next week. Berube has established herself as one of the area's top golfers. She was the Times' North Suncoast girls golfer of the year in 2010 and '11 after winning district titles both years. She placed fifth at the region tournament as a junior and finished three strokes from making it back to state for her senior year.

- Land O'Lakes infielder Dylan Harris signed with Saint Leo. He earned first-team all-North Suncoast honors as a junior and was also an all-conference performer. He hit .412 and stole 13 bases last spring while posting a 4.38 ERA in six appearances on the mound.
