Connie Mack, like Rubio, gentle in pushing back on Romney's 'gifts' comments

Defeated Rep. Connie Mack was on CNN this morning and was asked about Mitt Romney's "gifts" comments, which have drawn almost universal condemnation from fellow Republicans. Mack, like another big Florida Romney booster, Marco Rubio, was gentle in his criticism.

"I don't know that I would have used the word gifts," Mack said. "But I also believe that we need to do a better job, and when I say we, I mean Republicans need to do a better job of communicating to people around this country. And that's not just, you know it's all people. regardless of where you come from, what you look like and what your political beliefs are. We have a serious problem in this country about how we're going to move forward. We see both parties are at their wings, meaning there's nobody in the center anymore, in Washington. everybody is on their wings. We need to do a better job as Republicans communicating to people that we believe in their value as a human being, as a person, as an individual."

Rubio told Politico yesterday: "I don't want to rebut him point by point. I would just say to you, I don't believe that we have millions and millions of people in this country that don't want to work. I'm not saying that's what he said. I think we have millions of people in this country that are out of work and are dependent on the government because they can't find a job."
