Gov. Rick Scott has called for holding the Florida public education budget steady in the coming year, and to seek increases when possible.
Budget realities might make that a difficult goal to accomplish. Incoming House Speaker Will Weatherford has made plans to streamline the conversation.
On Friday, House Rules chairman Rob Schenck announced proposed rules for 2012-14 that would collapse the body's education appropriations committees from two -- higher education and pre-k-12 -- into one. Committee meetings are scheduled to begin the week of Dec. 3. Session starts on March 5.
