Zephyr Park will host a Zephyrhills Play Day from 1-3 p.m. today for children 14 and under. Play Days provide kids and parents of all skill levels with the opportunity to experience tennis in a fun setting. The event emphasizes family participation, effort and sportsmanship.

For smaller children, the event will utilize the USTA 10 and Under Tennis format, which allows smaller children to play tennis on smaller court sizes, with smaller racquets that fit their hands, foam and low-compression balls and a simple scoring system, all adjusted to ease kids into the sport.

"We're so excited that youth tennis is on the upswing in East Pasco County, particularly in Zephyrhills," said USTA Florida tennis program coordinator Carla Williams. "This Play Day is the perfect start to introducing the 10 and Under Tennis format to the community. With the low-pressure environment, all kids are encouraged to compete with the goal of keeping them involved in the sport for a lifetime."

The event is free for USTA members, $5 for non-USTA members, and includes refreshments and prizes. Information will also be available on 10 and Under Tennis, Jr. Team Tennis leagues, other local play opportunities, as well as special free USTA memberships for qualifying participants.
