RECREATION AND SPORTS

The Senior Softball Invitational League of Spring Hill began its winter season Sept. 18. The league is for players 50 and older. This year's teams include Rookies/Dr. Michael Higgins, Kokomos Pub and Grill/Chaney Chiropractic, Salute Italian Restaurant and Texas Roadhouse.

Oct. 4: Salute, 17, Kokomos/Chaney, 5; Rookies/Dr. Higgins, 11, Texas Roadhouse, 6.

Oct. 9: Texas Roadhouse, 14, Rookies/Dr. Higgins, 12; Salute, 12, Kokomos/Chaney, 7.

Oct. 11: Texas Roadhouse, 17, Kokomos/Chaney, 14; Rookies/Dr. Higgins, 13, Salute, 7.

Oct. 16: Rookies/Dr. Higgins, 7, Salute, 6; Texas Roadhouse, 12, Kokomos, 8.

Oct. 18: Kokomos/Chaney, 13, Rookies/Dr. Higgins, 12; Salute, 19, Texas Roadhouse, 12.

Oct. 23: Salute, 17, Texas Roadhouse, 4; Kokomos/Chaney, 14, Rookies/Dr. Higgins, 9.

The Anderson Snow Senior Softball League began its summer season May 1. The teams, named after their managers, include John Ward, Mel/Larry Gianneschi, Kenny George and Boom Oliver. Gianneschi added "Mel" to his team's name, honoring longtime friend and former league commissioner and treasurer Mel Agotta, who died April 16.

Oct. 11: Mel/Larry, 12, Kenny, 9; John, 12, Boomer, 9.

Oct. 16: John and Kenny tied, 17-17; Mel/Larry, 15, Boomer, 8.

Oct. 18: Boomer, 14, Kenny, 7; John, 16, Mel/Larry, 7.

Oct. 23: Kenny, 20, Mel/Larry, 11; Boomer, 14, John, 2.

Oct. 30: Kenny, 16, Boomer, 6; Mel/Larry, 11, John, 10.

Military news

Marine Corps Pfc. Lance R. Hillis recently graduated from the Basic Water Support Technician Course while assigned as a student at Marine Corps Engineer School, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Hillis and fellow students received instruction in subjects such as maintenance management, plumbing, military water supply and field sanitation. Hillis, a 2011 graduate of Hernando High School, is the son of Randy Hillis of Brooksville.

Marine Corps Pfc. Derek E. Kito recently completed 13 weeks of basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C. Kito, a 2012 graduate of Central High School, is the son of Diane and Mark E. Kito of Spring Hill.
