Hernando ace and USF signee Brandon Lawson was recently selected to compete in an international tournament this summer in Prague, his dad, Dave, said in an email.
Lawson will represent the United States in the U.S. Specialty Sports Association's tournament, from June 21-30.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound senior was the Tampa Bay Times' North Suncoast pitcher of the year last spring. He helped the Leopards reach the Class 5A region final by posting a 1.87 ERA with 100 strikeouts and batting in 20 runs.
This spring, Lawson has allowed only two earned runs in nine appearances. He hasa 6-0 record with 74 strikeouts in 42 innings and is a prospect for this summer's MLB draft.

Leopards' Timmons picks NAIA school
Hernando offensive lineman Andrew Timmons has orally committed to the NAIA's Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, Leopards coach Dwayne Mobley said.
Timmons, a 6-foot-1, 290-pound senior,had one pancake block as a senior and helped open holes for Georgia Southern signee Tyrail Hawkins.
Timmons' father of the same name starred for the Leopards, setting a school record with 24 tackles in a game before playing at Kansas State.

Gators DB signs with Averett
Land O'Lakes defensive back Eddie Schiffer has signed to play at Division III Averett University in Danville, Va., Gators coach Brian Wachtel said.
Schiffer, a 5-foot-9, 160-pound senior, tallied 30 tackles and five pass breakups for Land O'Lakes this fall. He snared two interceptions, returning one 50 yards for a touchdown in a 24-13 win over Wesley Chapel.
The Cougars have recruited actively in Tampa Bay and the North Suncoast - Hudson linebacker Steven Phillips has also signed to play there.
