Hillsborough board changes meeting times, webcast format

Published Apr. 29, 2013

Sometimes for pure entertainment, it's hard to top a School Board meeting.

Hillsborough County just made its online webcasts more user-friendly with an indexing system that lets you click on the discussion of a particular agenda item.

Care about a multimillion-dollar contract to fix leaky schoolhouse roofs? Want to know why the district is about to let children bring religious-themed leaflets to school? Click away.

We in the media were told we would love this feature, and we do! The board members even talked about us at the April 23 meeting. (minute 3:03, which you can find by clicking on any link.)

But enough about the media.

For a better use of this feature, click on the last Board recognition meeting of April 9. That's where you'll see the middle school soccer champions, the top student chefs and the winners of the 4H Tropicana Public Speaking Contest with a lot less fuss and bother.

In other school board news: Meeting times are about to change. Starting on July 16, they'll alternate between 9 a.m. (a nod to top district officials who start their work day at 6 a.m.) and 5 p.m. (easier for working parents who can't be there at 3 p.m.).

Recognition meetings will still begin at 5:30 p.m.
