OBITUARIES

ADAMS, Marjorie Mae DeGrow Marge was born June 12, 1931 in Bad Axe, MI, and died April 22, 2013, in Largo. She attended Pigeon High School and Central Michigan University and graduated from the University of Florida. She taught physical education and was a guidance counselor at Tarpon Springs High School for many years during which she earned two master's degrees from Columbia University. She finished her career as Chairman of the Guidance Department of Pinellas Vocational Technical Institute (PTEC). She enjoyed retirement with her late husband, Carl Bryant Adams Sr., as they traveled the country in their motor home remodeling one home at a time. Marge's passion was teaching and helping others. Her impact was felt by many. Her smiles, laughter and sense of humor were infectious. Her children are, Carolyn L. Pope of Englewood, Teri Johnson of Clearwater, (Jim) and Carl Adams Jr. of Flower Mound, TX. She leaves three brothers, Alvin DeGrow (Kay) of Leesburg, Douglas DeGrow (Katherine) of Dallas, TX, and Terry DeGrow (Gloria) of Seattle, WA. Marge leaves behind six beloved grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews along with many, many close friends. BAKER, William C. "Bill" 80, of Clearwater, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013 at home with his family by his bedside. Born in Kinston, NC, he joined the Navy in 1951. He graduated from NC State with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. In 1983 he moved to Clearwater. He retired from the City of Clearwater as City Engineer & Assistant City Manager and Public Works Director. Among his achievements for the city was the design of the new Sand Key bridge and the re-design of Harborview Center. He later went to work for Florida Design Consulting and for the Tampa Aviation Authority. Before his health declined he was the City Engineer & the Assistant City Manager for the City of Safety Harbor. He has been a member of Clearwater First Assembly of God Church for 30 years, served as a deacon and loved teaching Sunday school. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Barbara Baker; 2 daughters, Abby Baker Capaz of Fredericksburg, VA, Laura Menendez of Tampa; son, Ronnie Workman of Maiden, NC; brother, Don Baker of Franklin, NC; 3 grandchildren, Caleb, Larysa & Lauren. BARNES, Michael 74, formerly of St. Petersburg, passes away Sunday, April 21, 2013, at his home in Wooster, OH. He was born Dec. 18, 1938 in Anderson, IN, the son of Dwight and Doris Shippy Barnes and married Polly Mitten on Feb. 24, 1962. She survives. He has worked in retail management, was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Wooster, where he was a member of the Vestry. Surviving in addition to his wife, are a son, Michael Barnes II of Wooster; and a brother, Leo Barnes of St. Petersburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter, Abigail Barnes.Memorial services will be on Saturday, April 27th, at St. James Episcopal Church, in Wooster, OH.

BENEDETTO, John 66, passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday, April 22, 2013. John was a loving husband, a father, son, brother, uncle, teacher and coach. BERING, Sandra L. age 56, of Port Richey, passed away peacefully at HPH Hospice New Port Richey April 20, 2013. She is survived by her loving husband Michel; her daughter, Olivia; her brother, Edward Tillery and her sister-in-law, Carlene; nephews, Damian, Edward David; and her niece, Diana. CARNES, Miriam L. Miriam passed away gently on April 20, 2013, at the age of 89. Born in Asbury Park, NJ, she cruised the world with her husband, Marion, and had a special fondness for the Inside Passage of Alaska. Miriam was a gourmet chef, a master seamstress, loved to sing, and enjoyed a unique bond with her Siamese cats. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Dr. Marion Carnes; four sons, John, Russell, Dan, and Geoffrey; four daughters-in- law; five grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. CHARLES, Theron (Stancil) Jr. age 73, of Sarasota, was led by the Lord to come home to him and rest on the morning of April 18, 2013. DAVIS, Delton E. age 97 of Largo, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2013. DORSETT, Minister Synrick Emmanuel Sr. of Thonotosassa, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013. Minister Synrick Dorsett Sr. was born March 1, 1956 in St. Kiss, West Indies to the parentage of Frank Nathaniel Dorsett and Sylvia Garnett. Minister Dorsett began his education in the public school system of St. Kiss, West Indies. Later, he furthered his education in the state of Florida when his family relocated. Minister Dorsett served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army, later becoming employed by the Hillsborough County Waste Water Treatment Department where he was a supervisor. He retired in 2009 after 32 years of dedicated service. He joined hands in marriage to his beautiful wife, Gloria Dorsett. He leaves to cherish his memory: one loving son, Synrick E. FIDALGO, Richard "Dick" age 92, born on April 19, 1921 in Chicago, IL, he passed away on April 22, 2013. A veteran of the U.S. Navy and a 91 year resident of Tampa. He owned and operated the first auto parts store in Tampa, General Auto Supply Inc, and later worked hand-in-hand with his son and grandson at Brian's On-site Recycling until the day he went into the hospital. He was a man of few words. But, those that were spoken were honest, considerate, and more often than not would make you smile, even when you were upset. A graduate of Hillsborough High, all american quarterback and 3rd baseman. He was an avid Rays fan. But, loved sports of all kinds. Especially if the team was from Tampa. He enjoyed driving, watching TV, and picking up his granddaughters after school. Know by all as "Grandpa", he will forever be in our hearts and on our minds. GREEN, Leonard Tampa, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2013. Mr. Leonard Green was born in Jacksonville on Jan. 9, 1940 to the union of Ms. Thelma Green & Mr. Hurley Jones. He joined the military as an adult, and also served as a merchant seaman with over 20 years of dedicated service. He passed away at home peacefully. KEEN, Thomas Linwood 75, of Wima-uma, entered into rest Monday, April 22, 2013. Linwood worked for International Ship Repair for 29 years, he then spent 10 years with Corrosion Control. LENFESTEY, Hon. James Albaugh "Jim" 94, passed away peacefully at home on April 17, 2013 with family members at his side. Longtime Circuit Court judge, U.S. Army Colonel, accomplished mediator, professor of constitutional and business law, Sunday School teacher, and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed a distinguished career that spanned a lifetime. A second-generation Tampa native, he was born into one of Tampa's pioneer families, and attended Gorrie Elementary, Wilson Junior High and Plant High School. He received his B.A. degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and his J.D. degree from the University of Florida College of Law, where he became a member of Phi Delta Phi, an international legal honorary society. After 16 years of general law practice in Tampa with the firm he established, he was elected to the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court in 1966 following a hotly contested three-way race, and served for 24 years on the bench before "retiring" to pursue more than a decade of active service as a mediator. During his tenure as a Circuit Judge, he was elected Chairman of the Florida Circuit Judges' Conference and served two terms as Chief Judge of the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit. Patton Outstanding Jurist Award from the Hillsborough County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section and, after 10 years on the bench, was pleased to receive the highest approval rating of any judge in a Hillsborough County Bar Association lawyer opinion survey. For many years, his favorite "hobby" was teaching college classes in business and constitutional law at USF, University of Tampa, HCC and other local campuses. He was a veteran of World War II and attained the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. He served for years as a member of the Ft. Stewart/Hunter Army Air Field Retiree Council. Judge Lenfestey led and was active in a variety of legal professional, civic and charitable organizations and endeavors, and he and his wife and parents were faithful members of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon, an Elder and taught an adult Sunday School class for decades. Known for his wisdom, wit, work ethic, courtesy and interest in others, he was a mentor to, and was beloved by, many throughout his lifetime. McCURDY, Norman R. "Mac" (USAF Colonel, Ret.), age 87, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2013. Born in Aultman, PA, and retired to Dunedin in l974, following a 31 year career serving his country as a bomber pilot and officer of the United States Air Force. Mac served 22 years with the Strategic Air Command, flying in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was awarded the Legion of Merit Award with Cluster. Mac was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Dunedin and a member of the Masonic Lodge #313 F&AM of Indiana, PA. A generous and caring man, Mac will be dearly remembered by his loving wife of 66 years, Cleo Fleming McCurdy; and by his children, Randy McCurdy and Kim McCurdy Waag (Fred); brother, Charles Flanagan (Jane); and sister, Betty Lou Little. A doting grandfather to Arran Nailor (Derek), Meredith Wold (Matthew), Eric McCurdy, Austin Waag, and Rachel Waag; and great-grandfather to Devin Nailor, Mackenzie Nailor, & Lila Wold. In addition to his parents, Mac was predeceased by his son, Rod McCurdy; and sister, Mildred Chambers. Mac left a legacy of love and stewardship to all who knew him. McEVER, Dennis Kevin 54, of Plant City, died on Monday, April 22, 2013, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Born on Dec. 2, 1958 in Plant City. He was the son of the late Arnold McEver, Jr. and Donna Chase-McEver. Kevin was a former manager for Felton's Grocery and attended Grace Methodist. His passion was for anything sports and especially baseball. He coached, managed, and played baseball all his life; and was a third degree black belt in karate. The family has asked those who will attend the service to dress in baseball attire. McMILLAN, Charles Robert passed into our Lord's arms on April 23, 2013, in Brandon. Chuck was born on Jan. 12, 1934 in Syracuse to the late Russell & Bertha McMillan. He grew up in Jordan, NY, where he met the love of his life, Nancy Smart McMillan. Chuck and Nancy were married in Idar-Oberstein, Germany while serving our country with the U.S. Army. MERO, Myrtle S. of Clearview Oaks, St. Petersburg passed away peacefully on Feb. 6, 2013, having never recovered from an auto accident in Oct. 2012. She was born Aug. 25, 1921, in Strackville, NY the eldest child of Shirley Esmund and Alma Velita Strack (nee Bell) and also the eldest grandchild of George and Delima Bell (nee Lafountain). She attended Sallaz Academy in Redford, NY and after the family moved to Beekmantown, NY, St. John's Academy in Plattsburgh, NY graduating in 1937. She was the last surviving member of that class. After attending Loretta Business School and working briefly in Plattsburgh she moved to Washington, D.C. where she spent the rest of her working life retiring in 1987 as a security specialist with the Department of Defense. She was very active in the Toastmistresses Club in D.C. where she met her lifelong friend Alice Phillips of St. Petersburg. She was also an active member for years with Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. In Clearview Oaks, she was an officer of the Social Club and editor of their Chronicle for many years. She was a communicant of the Church of the Transfiguration of St. Petersburg. She was predeceased by her former husband Walton J.Mero of Willsboro, NY, a veteran of the Iwo Jima campaign and their two children, Shirley Ann (Lee) Crippen and David Jay Mero; two brothers Raymond Strack and Clarence Strack. She is survived by two daughters-in-law, Linda Mero of Encino, CA and Rosario Mereaux of Chula Vista, CA; a son-in-law, Dan Crippen of Bethesda, MD; two grandsons, Kevin Mero of Encino, CA and Ryan Mero of Lake Balboa, CA; and two great-grandchildren.
