What is New Thought?, a newly released documentary produced by Jon Miller, will be screened locally at 7 p.m. Friday at Unity Church of Clearwater, 2645 Nursery Road, Clearwater. The film takes a look at how New Thought has had an impact in our world and features Wally "Famous" Amos, the Rev. Dr. Della Reese Lett, Deepak Chopra, Will Bowen, the Rev. Dr. Blaine Mays, Faith Rivera and others.

"This movie is a perfect introduction to New Thought for those who are curious, and an excellent refresher for longtime students," said the Rev. Marla Sanderson of Clearwater's New Thought Center for Creative Living.

The National Day of Prayer is an annual event observed on the first Thursday of May inviting Americans of all faiths to pray for the nation.

Instituted in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry Truman, the event encourages prayers for America, its president, cabinet, Congress, the court system and judges, military personnel, state and local government officials, rescue workers, churches and others.

"Pray For America," an event to mark the 2013 National Day of Prayer, will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bright House Field, 601 N Old Coachman Road, Clearwater. For more information call (727) 595-2034.

Those familiar with the names Aechmea faciata, Vriesa spendens, Crypthanthus hybrid and Neoregelia carolinae might want to check out the Florida West Coast Bromeliad Society's annual auction Tuesday at Hope Presbyterian Church, 1698 S Belcher Road, Clearwater. Items up for sale include artwork, posters, ceramics and/or books with a bromeliad theme as well as the flowers themselves. Plant varieties are often rare and unusual.Doors open at 7 p.m.; the auction begins at 7:30.
