MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Former Florida State quarterback Clint Trickett, who was released from his scholarship last month, is transferring to West Virginia.

The junior is on target to graduate this month with a social science degree and is eligible to play in the fall. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Trickett's father, Rick, spent six seasons as offensive line coach at West Virginia before leaving for the same job at FSU in 2007.

"WVU football welcomes Clint Trickett home," West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen said Wednesday. "He basically grew up in Morgantown, and I know he feels very comfortable here. ... I am excited that he has decided to finish his career as a Mountaineer."

Trickett will compete in fall camp with Paul Millard and Ford Childress.

Trickett had been competing for the FSU starting job during spring practice. He completed 22 of 32 passes for 259 yards during the spring game, but redshirt freshman Jameis Winston was the star and seemed to establish himself as the front-runner to start this season.

Trickett played eight games last season as EJ Manuel's backup and went 22-for-34 for 272 yards.

"I'm excited now to continue my academic and athletic career at West Virginia University," Trickett said. "Not only was it home for me, the place I grew up and the state I love, but also it's the best fit for me athletically."

More FSU: Former cornerback Greg Reid, who went undrafted, will have a second surgery to fix a torn anterior cruciate ligament next week, the Orlando Sentinel reported. Reid's agent, David Weinshel, said a surgery in August didn't properly correct the problem.

Aggies to host most in SEC: Texas A&M's Kyle Field will become the largest football stadium in the SEC after university regents approved a $450 million redevelopment plan. The stadium's capacity will increase from 82,589 to 102,500, making it just larger than Tennessee's Neyland Stadium's 102,455. The renovation will begin after the 2013 football season and should be finished for the 2015 season. The team will play in the stadium during the project.

Summitt still a Vol: Pat Summitt will continue in her role as the Tennessee basketball head coach emeritus on coach Holly Warlick's staff next season. Summitt agreed to a one-year contract that will pay her $85,000, less than a quarter of the $354,375 she received for the same role this past year. She stepped down as coach in April 2012, one year after announcing she had early-onset dementia, Alzheimer's type.

Gator transfers: A day after UF landed Rutgers guard transfer Eli Carter, freshman guard Braxton Ogbueze was granted his release and will transfer. Ogbueze played in 23 games last season and had 19 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.

tennis: Seminole's Alexandra Cercone, and her UF teammates Lauren Embree and Sofie Oyen, were selected to compete in the NCAA women's singles championships, May 22-27 in Urbana, Ill. Cercone (25-7) has won 11 straight matches. Embree is the No. 1 overall seed.
