In front of a packed house on homecoming night, Wiregrass Ranch defeated Ridgewood 37-14.
The Bulls went up 17-0 with little less than four minutes left in the first quarter by utilizing a no-huddle offense. Their impressive defense held Ridgewood to no first downs in the first quarter.
Two failed fourth-down conversions in Wiregrass territory stymied the Rams (1-6). Wiregrass' defense, led by Jaye Miner, was able to plug holes and stand tough in their own territory.
Late in the second quarter, the Rams faced fourth down on the Wiregrass 4-yard line and failed to reach the end zone.
A couple of late scores were not enough for Ridgewood.
Junior quarterback Shane Bucenell led the Bulls (3-3) with an impressive performance. He used several receivers as he passed for 117 yards while completing 9 of 16 passes. He also rushed five times for 64 yards. He finished with two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown.
Bulls senior running back Gerald Grady also had a big game. He consistently allowed the Bulls to string together long drives with big gains. He ran nine times for 78 yards and one touchdown.
The Rams also had breakout performances from their star players. Junior quarterback Nick Michaels went 12 of 24 for 144 yards. Sophomore running back Glass Wilson had 144 rushing yards on 21 carries with one touchdown.
