Each week, our HomeTeam staffers will nominate male and female Hot Shot athletes from each of the counties we cover, then we turn the voting over to our readers. These nominations span Saturday, Oct. 5 through Friday, Oct. 11. The winners get a free T-shirt and bragging rights over every other school in the area. Female nominees

Alex Eaton, Shorecrest cross country: Defended her title at the St. Petersburg City Meet, finishing in 19:05, more than 30 seconds ahead of her closest competitor. She also helped the Chargers win their second straight team title.

Kari Grippo, Gulf cross country: The senior took third place after running a season-best 19:06 at the Gator Invitational last weekend. She challenged a powerful Estero team to secure her spot and lifted Gulf to a fifth-place finish with 204 points.

Kelly Harris, Sunlake golf: Harris is the first Sunshine Athletic Conference medalist from Sunlake in seven seasons. The sophomore shot 85 to overcome a rival from Mitchell, a golf powerhouse that earned its 13th consecutive SAC title Tuesday.

Katie Moore, Clearwater Central Catholic volleyball: In a district match against Northside Christian on Tuesday, Moore had 13 kills, four blocks and three aces. The 6-foot-2 Moore averages 3.0 kills and a county-leading 1.2 blocks per game.

Karissa Rhoades, Bloomingdale volleyball: The junior had 20 kills to help force a fifth set against Plant in a 3-2 district loss Tuesday.

Sneha Sathish, King cross country: The sophomore won the Don Bishop Invitational, finishing in 19:15, almost a minute faster than the second-place finisher.

Male nominees

Shane Bucenell, Wiregrass football: The junior quarterback completed 9 of 16 passes for 117 yards and rushed for 64 yards in a 37-14 win over Ridgewood on Friday. He scored three of Wiregrass' four touchdowns.

Donnie Gabrelcik, Mitchell golf: The junior won the Sunshine Athletic Conference individual medal for the second year in a row. He shot 3 under par, including five birdies, to lead Mitchell to its third SAC title. Gabrelcik shot 73 at the CCC Invitational two days earlier.

Matthew Hirschberger, Clearwater Central Catholic swimming: He dominated last weekend's Tampa Bay Classic, winning the 200 free (1:42.91) and 500 free (4:32.24). He also swam legs on the first-place 200 free relay (1:29.76) and 400 free relay (3:13.44) while setting meet records in each event.

Tayveon Landsm, Gibbs football: The 5-foot-8, 145-pound junior had touchdown runs of 67, 54 and 35 yards, and he finished with 164 total yards overall, in a 54-19 win against Dixie Hollins.

Chase Litton, Wharton football: The senior quarterback threw for a school-record 480 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-28 win over Steinbrenner. He also rushed for a score.

Rickey Pyron, Tampa Bay Tech football: He returned a first-quarter fumble 48 yards for a TD in a 38-21 win over Plant City. In the fourth quarter he scored another TD, on a 4-yard run.
