Gators Brent Pease confident in freshman RB Kelvin Taylor

Florida freshman RB Kelvin Taylor has carried the ball just 16 times in his short Gators career, but offensive coordinator Brent Pease said he's confident Taylor is ready to step into a new role.

He will see increased playing time for the remainder of the season due to the loss of starting RB Matt Jones, who suffered a torn meniscus against LSU and is out for the remainder of the season. Jones underwent surgery on Monday.

Taylor got his most significant playing time this past Saturday after Jones went down- 10 carries for 52 yards.

"Kelvin did really well," Pease said. "I mean, he ran the ball hard. You see he made some good vertical cuts and did a good job in space and ran tough. He did well, even in protections. He did his job. So, I think it's good experience for him. I think he showed us something. And, you know, he really actually gave us a little spark in running the ball there for a while."

The Gators will travel to play No. 14 Missouri this weekend, but Pease expects Taylor to be up to the task.

"I think he's definitely ready for it," Pease said. "I think he's still got to zero in because now there's going to be more asked of you every play. Because when you're calling plays you've still got to try to find balance. It just can't be all handoffs to him. There's some things he didn't do that he needed to do. But I tell you the kid is a physical runner. . . When he got the ball, he was gaining five, six, seven yards."
