BROOKSVILLE - The Class 2A, District 13 championships were decided in beautiful conditions at Silverthorn Golf & Country Club Monday afternoon and into the evening.

The boys title needed extra holes after Springstead and Nature Coast tied in regulation at 349. The Eagles emerged with the crown after winning the first hole by one.

The Sharks did feature Jake Arnett, who won the individual district title for the second straight season. He shot even-par 72 on Nature Coast's home course, seven strokes ahead of both Hernando's Cody Montgomery and Springstead's Brazon Dixon (79).

Hernando (354) will join its county rivals in the Class 2A, Region 5 tournament next week at Fox Hollow.

Also moving on is Weeki Wachee's Mike Rampino, who shot 11-over 83 to finish fifth overall. He shot 14 on the par-5 third hole after hitting his ball into the water, but still bounced back for one of the best rounds in the field.

Other individuals who advanced are Fivay's Sean Fluke (19-over 91) and Central's Jans Tamayo (22-over 94).

Fivay's girls (420) captured their second straight district title with a dominant victory over runnerup Hernando (452) and Nature Coast (471).

"The most important thing for us as a team is to make sure that our girls love the game of golf going forward," Fivay coach Richard Bynum said. "They play together so often, and that is reflected in how close their scores are."

Although every qualifying Falcon golfer was impressive, shooting under 115 and making the top 10, it was the twosome from Springstead who stop atop the standings at the end, edging Amber Mariano (98) by a stroke.

Eagles Kiki Schau and Kyrie Van Meter shot 97 to lead the field. Schau won the tiebreaker to take the district title.

"Kyrie and I are always really competitive with each other, but for us to come out here and do this against the other (golfers) makes it pretty cool," Schau said. "We're just really glad to be going to on (to regionals) together."

Weeki Wachee's Holly Brumfeld (129) will join the others at regionals.
