There's good news and bad news about Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. The bad news is that, contrary to popular rumor-peddlers, the pair are not going to host the Oscars in 2015. The good news is that's because they're going to reunite to host the Golden Globes for the next two years. Good ratings have that effect on overstuffed TV awards ceremonies.
After Fey and Poehler drew the highest ratings in six years as co-hosts for the broadcast last year, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and Dick Clark Productions decided to sign them up for a couple more appearances, The Hollywood Reporter said. The show garnered 19.7 million viewers, which is an awful lot for an Oscars dress rehearsal.
"Tina and Amy are two of the most talented comedic writer/performers in our business, and they were a major reason the Golden Globes was the most entertaining awards show of last season," NBC president of alternative and late night programming Paul Telegdy told THR. "We're elated they wanted to host together again and that they committed for the next two years."
So now that we all know this dynamic duo is in charge of the Golden Globes and this year's host Neil Patrick Harris can pretty much do the Tonys whenever he wants, that only leaves the Academy Awards fumbling in the dark for a go-to host. Replacing Billy Crystal has turned into a pretty difficult job. Since they won't ever take Patton Oswalt, they should just pick Tom Hanks for life and be done with it.
