The Dawn Center of Hernando County would like to thank those who helped with our recent renovations, including the kitchen and shared living spaces at our emergency shelter for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

The shelter serves as a temporary home to victims fleeting abuse and can house up to 40 women and children at any given time. That's about 120 meals being prepared each day.

Volunteer Ed Brady reached out to the community for help, and the community came together around this need. Because of everyone's help, the project is now complete.

Thanks to Rick Crawford of Sherwin Williams of Brooksville, who provided the paint for the entire interior of the eight-bedroom house. The Baby Boomers of Timber Pines provided new laminate flooring in the common areas.

Danny Carbaugh, local Realtor, offered his woodworking talents to build each kitchen cabinet. Materials were donated by Haywood Baker, Tampa Bay Millworks, Lowe's of Brooksville and Pittsburgh Paint of Spring Hill.

Materials for a new floor were donated by Gary Bisard of Pro-Line Tile Distributors. Shane Beard, with years of construction experience, provided countless hours of service installing the flooring and countertops as well as a new backsplash. Additional support for the kitchen project materials was provided by the Timber Lakes Village of Timber Pines. Volunteer workers included Joni Hartnett, Tom Broaderick, Bob Scott and Jamie Stotzky.

It was inspiring to see the community really wrap around the shelter's victims and their children to meet their needs by helping to make our shelter a beautiful place that can truly feel like home in their hour of need.

On behalf of the more than 300 survivors of violence we serve at our shelter every year, we at the Dawn Center express our sincerest thanks. This will truly impact the lives of those we serve in a hugh way for years to come.
