OBITUARIES

ALDRICH, Richard E. 73, passed away Oct. 10, 2013. Survived by his wife, Susan; his son, Jeffrey; and grandchildren, Margaret and Jeffrey. He is also survived by his three children from a prior marriage, Richard E. Aldrich Jr., Lisa Squires, and Angela Conyers; 15 more grand-children and one great-grandchild, Lorelai Murtha.

ANDERSON, Carl A. Jr. "Andy" 88, of Tampa, passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at home. He was born on April 26, 1925 in Clearfield, PA, the youngest of five children born to Carl A. and Agnes Hilma (Thompson) Anderson. Mr. Anderson retired from the U.S. Air Force after 35 years of service. He began his military career in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and served aboard the USS Potawatomi in the Pacific Theater. After the formation of the Air Force in 1947, he transferred to the Air Force and finished his military career as Chief Master Sergeant. In addition to several peacetime postings, he participated in the Korean Conflict and the war in Vietnam, where he met his wife of 44 years, Ramphueng Dang Tawornprom Anderson. CMSGT Anderson retired from active duty in July 1983. He received the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Good Conduct Medal from three branches of the service: U.S. Army, the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with six devices, and the World War II Victory Medal, among many other decorations and commendations. He is survived by his wife, Dang; and their two sons, and spouses, Andy Anderson (Constance) and Perry Anderson (Lorrie), and his children from his first marriage, Rick Anderson, Raymond and Sally (Anderson) Blankenship, Beth (Anderson) Kalinyak, all of California; his sister, Mildred Valentine of Murray, KY; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 17th, at 6 pm, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Ave., Tampa, FL 33609. ARNOLD, Ernestine Loraine "Lil Ma" Homegoing celebration for Mrs. Ernestine Loraine Arnold "Lil Ma", of Tampa, who passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, will be held Saturday, Oct. 19th, at 2 pm, at the Hood Temple A.M.E Zion Church, 3608 N 26th Street, Pastor Bessie L. AUSTIN, Frederick Ralph 80, of Land O' Lakes, passed away Oct. 13, 2013. He was born in 1933 to Sherly Ev Austin & Vera Collums Austin in Pontotoc County, MS. Ralph served in the Army Quartermasters during the Korean War. He earned a degree in Accounting from Harding University, and worked 25 years at the Memphis Publishing Company and retired in 1995. During his life he spent over 20 years preaching the gospel; many of those years with the Church of Christ in Buckhorn, MS. In 1995, Ralph and Helen retired to the Tampa area to be close to their children. Ralph enjoyed playing golf, hunting, bowling, basketball, but most of all, he loved worshiping the Lord. Ralph is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Houpt Austin; along with their son, Robert Austin & daughter-in-law, Toni Austin; son, David Austin & daughter-in-law, Debi Austin; grandchildren, Robert, Joshua, Brittany, Kalylin, Chaz & Justin; and two great-grand-children, Leighton & Gaige. BEVIS, Colleen Lunsford 97, native and lifelong resident of Tampa and champion of children, died Oct. 11, 2013, at her home by Hillsborough Bay, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born Sept. 5, 1916, to J. J. and Geraldine Lunsford, and was the third of their eight children. She graduated from Brandon High School and attended the University of Tampa. In 1941, she married H. Wayne Bevis, with whom she happily spent the next 52 years. Wayne died in 1993 at the age of 87. Colleen is also preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Bendita Mitchell, Jay Lunsford, Eileen Oslin, Mort Lunsford, and Terry Lunsford; and stepdaughter, Dorothy Ann Ward. She is survived by her sisters, Thalia Potter and Joy Highleyman; and her daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly Bevis and Richard Hills and Judith Bevis Langevin and Steven Lapinsky. She is also survived by her dear friend, Darlene Dickson; grandchildren, Martha Ward, David Ward, Charles Ward, Alex Hills, Chris Hills and Eva Brooks, Jake Langevin and Alisha O'Dell, Josh Langevin, and Anna Lapinsky; great-grandson, Max Hills; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. Colleen's life work was the welfare of Florida's children. She spent 50 years volunteering in organizations devoted to that cause. She received and treasured many forms of recognition for her work, but the most meaningful was the naming of the Colleen Lunsford Bevis Elementary School in southeast Tampa. A private interment will be followed by a public memorial on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 2:30 pm. The memorial service will be held at Colleen L. Bevis Elementary School, 5720 Osprey Ridge Dr., Lithia, FL. BOUDART, Leonilda B. "Lee", age 94, passed away on Oct. 15, 2013. She was born in Staten Island, NY, and moved to St. Petersbrg 37 years ago. She was a longtime parishioner of the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle and volunteered at the Shrine Shop. She was also a member of the Serra Club. Her husband, Prosper Jr. died in 2005. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Sellitto; her two sons, Prosper III and Raymond; eight grandchildren; and her two great-grandchildren. CATER, Preston E. Sr. 77, of Tampa, passed away on Oct. 11, 2013. Preston was born on July 29, 1936 in Tarpon Springs to the late Bennet and Bertha (Edwards) Cater. He was a retired Master Sergeant Special Forces National Guard, where he spent 23 years. He also drove a semi for Sears for 39 years. He enjoyed woodworking, arts and crafting in his workshop after retirement. Preston was also preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Cater. Preston is survived by his wife, May Cater; step daughter, Kris Buchanan; and other relatives. DICKEY, Thomas "Preacher" would tell you he's waited his entire adult life for the day he would enter heaven. We are comforted in knowing that his life is chan-ged, not ended. Thousands of buildings/homes in Pasco have nails in their walls put there by the swing of his hammer. Through these last years friends would ask how he was. FABRIZIO, Vincent J. age 85, of Seminole, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013. On the second-to-last day of his life, his lungs filled with cancer, he harmonized a song with a nurse and his brother. That was Vincent: always full of joy, always enriching the life of others. He was born July 24, 1928 in Manhattan, NY. He never missed work in 34 years at Florida Power Co. His favorite saying was, "how wonderful," his best-known attribute a hearty laugh. He had a deep love for his Catholic faith, and sang in various church choirs. Exercise was a lifelong passion. He took long walks and belonged to a gym, where he had many friends and did aerobics into his 80s. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dorothy Fabrizio; sons, Matthew (Sandy) Fabrizio & John Fabrizio; and three grandchildren who adored him, Michael, Jessica & Maria, all of Seminole. Also surviving are brothers, Anthony of St. Petersburg, Louis of Seminole and Ronnie (Carol) of Clearwater; and sisters, Sally Tamburrino of St. Petersburg, Faye Scaglione of Seminole, and Madeline Breen of Fort Myers. GOOD, Stan 67, of Tampa, passed away on Oct. 12, 2013. Born Nov. 29, 1945, in Cleveland, OH, Stan obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree at the College of Wooster and later served in the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army. Along with his wife, Stan was co-owner and co-operator of his family business and clock shop, Stan Good Clocks in Tampa, for more than 35 years. He had a great passion for parrots, music, and songwriting, and was an avid traveler and collector of all things. Stan is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Dominique; his two sons, Chris and Max; his brother, Doug; his sister, Laura; his loving uncle, Jim Kister; along with all of his extended family and friends. GREENE, Lindsay Nicole against her earthly wishes, was taken to Heaven to be with our dear Lord on Oct. 9, 2013. She was the tender age of 25, having been born on Easter Sunday, April 3, 1988. Lindsay was a beautiful person inside and out. She was a compassionate, loving, caring, determined individual in every way. Her passion for life, kindness and peace was the root of her soul. Lindsay was born in Sarasota. She moved to Riverview, at age 6 and attended elementary school there. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School from 1998 until she graduated 8th grade. She had many wonderful teachers and friends there. She participated in a wide range of athletics, soccer, volleyball and basketball. She also won the county history fair award and later placed 3rd in state competition. Lindsay attended Cardinal Mooney High School, where she continued to excel in both academics and athletics. She graduated from East Bay High School in 2006 and attended Hillsborough Community College. The happiest day of Lindsay's life was Feb. 23, 2010, when she gave birth to a beautiful son, Philip. He was a continuous source of joy for her during their brief time together. Two days before she was tragically taken from us, Lindsay received her diploma as a Dental Assistant from Erwin Technical Center in Tampa. She was excited and thrilled to be starting this new phase of her life. Lindsay is survived by her parents, Michael and Jennifer Greene of Ruskin; and by her 3 year-old son, Philip. Funeral Mass will be 10 am Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 at St. Anne Catholic Church, 106 11th Avenue NE, Ruskin. HALBROOKS, Barbra Sue 71, of Longview, TX, passed away on Oct. 13, 2013 in St. Petersburg after a long struggle with post-operative complications. Barbra was born in Muskogee, OK but spent most of her life in east Texas until moving to St. Petersburg area three years ago. She is survived by her sister, Debbie Spruce of Hallsville, TX; daughter, Sheri Maurer of Longview, TX; and sons, John Halbrooks of Tampa, and Mike Halbrooks of Fremont, MI. She is also blessed with 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grand-children. Barbra was very successful in the American Kennel Club including showing Collies and Shetland Sheepdogs. Her business, "Legacy Kennels", produced Champions and several award-winning dogs. But her greatest pride and love was investing in the success and well-being of her children and grandchildren. Barbra was known for being fun and light-hearted. Although proud of her Texas heritage, she loved living in the St. Petersburg area and the close friendships she developed. HELBIG, Otto 98, of Sun City Center, passed away peacefully on Oct. 13, 2013. His kindness, humor and generous caring attitude will be missed. Born Oct. 28, 1914, he received his bachelor's degree from Yale University and his master's and doctorate degrees from Columbia University. Otto served in the Special Services Branch of the US Army during World War II. While serving, he worked with many of the top musicians of the time, producing V-disks for dis-tribution to troops all over the world. During this time, he wrote and directed an arrangement of "More Than You Know," performed by the combined Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey Bands. This is the only recording ever made of the combined bands. His composition, "The Pentagon," was played by the National Symphony in Washington DC. For 32 years, he was a professor of violin, musical composition and conducting at Trenton State College (The College of New Jersey). After retiring, he was named Professor Emeritus of Music at the college. He was also known throughout the Princeton, NJ, area for his jazz violin, sax and musical saw performances. His band and string compositions have been played at schools around the nation. Otto played violin with several organizations, including the Hawaiian and Trenton Symphonies. During his younger days, he travelled Europe with the Yale Band. While on tour, he took time out to enter a diving contest. He won the award for performing the best swan dive before the Princess of Italy. He lived at Homewood Residences for the last nine years, performing his music on the keyboard for his fellow residents. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary. He is survived by his daughter, Jann; grandchildren, Bethany and Jeremy; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Gavin and Stella. HOOPS, Michael LeRoy 47, a lifelong resident of Tampa, passed away Oct. 11, 2013. Michael loved the outdoors, and enjoyed golf, fishing, and doing yard work. He was dearly loved by family and friends, and will be missed. He is survived by his three children, Sara Ann Gold, Michael LeRoy Hoops II, and Brian David Hoops; five grandchildren, Isabella Ortiz, Austin Hoops, Bentley Hoops, Julian Hoops and Jordan Hoops; parents, Merle LeRoy Hoops and Marilyn Hoops; sisters, Sherry Anderson and Bristainy Daly; extended family and many friends. HULL, Michael D. Jr. 34, of Thonoto-sassa, passed away on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013. He was born on Jan. 22, 1979 in Tampa to his parents, Michael D. Hull Sr. and Jennifer Varner Hull. Michael was the oldest of three children. He married Candace T. Davis in Tampa on Dec. 31, 2001. They had two children. He attended Armw-ood High School and graduated in 1997. He was employed by R. M. Ward & Sons, Inc. as a concrete laborer. Michael enjoyed both, playing and watching baseball and he was a car enthusiast. Michael was a gifted Artist, an extremely intelligent man, and he loved his family very much. Michael will be remembered by his loving wife, Candace; and their children, Natalie and Ameilia. He is also survived by his parents, Jennifer and Michael Hull Sr.; two brothers, David & Timothy Hull; and many loving family & friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service for Michael at 3 pm, Friday, Oct. 18th, at Grace Family Church, 8610 Temple Terrace Highway. KERR, Gary Russell 72, of Spring Hill, FL, formerly of New Port Richey, FL, passed away on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013. A private memorial will be held at a later date in Daytona Beach. He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Arlene; sister, Suzanne; and brother, Roger, all of Columbiaville, MI. He was born Oct. 11, 1940,. He married the love of his life, Janice M. Lutze on Dec. 3, 1960 in Otter Lake, MI. Survived by wife, Janice; sons, Kevin (Connie), Gary James (Elizabeth); daughter, Luann; 11 grandchildren, Jeff, Amy, Amanda, Justin, James, Kimberly, Charlie, Erica, Michael, Autumn & Savanna; niece, Cassie; 6 great-grandchildren, Dominique, Ivan, Carter, Mason, Brinley, Bradon; brother, Jack (Cathy), of Columbiaville, MI; sisters, Evelyn Harvey (Clifford), Karen Phillips, of Davison, MI, Nancy Dormire of Millington, MI; in-laws, Joe and Judy Ursuy, Malcolm Lutze. Gary served on the Lakeville School Board as a member and president. After working as a millwright, he moved to Florida in 1975 where he worked as a real estate broker for 20' years. He was a life-long scholar and mentor related to nutrition and alternative medicine. He was passionate about politics and sports, especially golf. He was a very charitable man that engaged in random acts of kindness to strangers. Most of all he cherished time with his family. He will be greatly missed.

MILLER, John P. 63, of Tampa passed away Oct. 13, 2013. Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Sandy Miller; daughter, Cherron Nagle and husband John of Columbus, OH; sister, Becky Turner and husband Bob of Marion, OH; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Originally from Marion, OH, John has been a Tampa Bay resident for the last 22 years. MOODY, Irma Cone age 99, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 14, 2013. Born in Worth County, GA, in 1914, she graduated from high school in Darien, GA, and subsequently received her degree from Georgia State College for Women, majoring in Latin, French and English. She taught school in Georgia and Florida. Irma was preceded in death by her husband, James S. Moody Sr., in 2001 after 62 years of marriage. She is survived by three children, Carole M. Shelton, James S. Moody Jr. (Kelli), William C. Moody Sr. (Sandra); eight grandchildren, Jennifer S. Mallan, Mark Shelton, Stephanie S. Kilton, Ashley M. Duralia, James S. Moody III, Patricia M. McNabb, William C. Moody Jr., Ryan Fulcher; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Active in community affairs, Irma served as PTA President, Jr. and Sr. Woman's Club President, and was a member of the Plant City Planning Board for seven years. She was President of the Presbyterian Women of the Church on three different occasions, and was a Bible and Sunday School teacher for many years. Visitation with family and friends will be 5-7 pm, Thursday, Oct. 17th, at Wells Memorial and Event Center. A funeral service will be held at 10 am at First Presbyterian Church in Plant City. PEREIRA, Jose Milton Sr. 85, of Riverview passed away on Oct. 11, 2013. He was born on Aug. 18, 1928 in El Salvador. Upon arriving in America, Jose began to grow roots in New York. He and his family moved to Florida 8 years ago. Jose loved soccer, listening to music, and also loved to dance. POEKERT, Shirley Ann 91, of Palm Harbor, FL, passed on to her Heavenly Father on Oct. 13, 2013. She was born on July 26, 1922 in Pittsburgh, PA. She was preceded in death in 1992 by her husband, James Richard (Dick) Poekert, Sr. after 50 years of devoted marriage. Shirley worked many years at Hood Dairy as office manager. POTTS, Doris J. Nobles 74, of Palm Harbor, passed away at home Oct. 12, 2013. She was born in Kingston, OK on January 12, 1939, and moved to Sherman, TX as a toddler. A graduate of Sherman High School, she moved to Palm Harbor, FL in 1975 where she was the heart and soul of Tarpon Woods Golf Course pro shop for 10 years. She served as vice-president of Tarpon Woods Development until her retirement in 2010. Doris is survived by sons, Andrew, Ted and Bob Potts; her sister, Ann Ferrentino; two brothers, Jim Nobles and Bill Nobles, and sisters-in-law, Virginia Nobles and Judy Nobles; one granddaughter; five nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ance and Imogene Nobles and her son, Robbie. Doris was loved by many and will be missed tremendously.
