Pinellas to name new executive director of ESE

Superintendent Mike Grego has selected a new executive director of exceptional student education, following this week's retirement of Cindy Bania-Carter.

Lisa Grant, the district's director of professional development, will assume the role, effective Oct. 23. The School Board will consider the appointment at its regular meeting Tuesday. The board is expected to sign off on Grego's personnel appointments unless a candidate is unqualified.

Grant has been an assistant principal, principal, and activities coordinator/athletic director. She began her education career in 1993. She has degrees from Gonzaga University, the University of Washington and the University of South Florida.

Bania-Carter is retiring after 33 years. She helped develop a job-training program for students with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 22. Many of the students in the program have internships and jobs at places such as Macy's, The Postcard Inn, and Goodwill.
